Protecting the Director of a mid-sized business

"You did a spectacular job, the people we spoke with were amazing"
Customer , Director

A 40-year-old Company Director, Shaun Davies* was travelling with his team to Bali under his company’s Corporate Travel Policy placed with AHI.

Mr Davies fell and suffered a serious spinal injury. His co-workers called AHI Assist for support, within 20 minutes of first contact AHI had provided initial approval and AHI Assist began the process of ensuring Mr Davies was transferred to a pre-vetted, local medical facility.

AHI Assist Medical Consultant liaised with the local treating Doctor making the following decisions:

  • Local diagnostic facilities were not sufficient to support diagnosis
  • A transfer to hospital was required
  • The local Doctor, with coordination by AHI Assist medical team, would transfer patient care to an AHI Assist local partner medical facility

The hospital, in conjunction with AHI Assist’s medical consultant confirmed Mr Davies had suffered a spinal fracture and would require surgery. Although AHI Assist’s local partner was confident of performing a successful surgery, AHI Assist Medical Consultant had been liaising with a Neurosurgeon back in Australia and they determined it would be better to get Mr Davies home to a local hospital in Australia where he could recover and rehabilitate with the support of family.

Both AHI Assist and the Australian neurosurgeon confirmed that Mr Davies was in a stable condition and could be safely transported back to Australia via Air Ambulance.

Within 55 hours of AHI’s first contact regarding Mr Davies’ claim, he was admitted to his local hospital for surgery. During the 55 hour claim, AHI Assist managed in excess of 200 calls to ensure the safe passage of Mr Davies to a centre of medical excellence, and upon completion of the successful surgery he was surrounded by family.
